grand stuff for starting out - and contributing to rough ground when your getting your head round a new mark!!

Lads I got a few spools of the line last time for casting practice and it's excellent 300meters for 2.99, very handy in higher BS for rough ground etc, you can't go wrong!!

I picked a couple of spools of the line last year out of curiosity. I just use it around the rough stuff and its not too bad. Although the breaking strain is a little over stated its a bit wirey but what do you expect for that price. I wouldn't bother with the other stuff, you get what you pay for. That said I wouldn't mind having a look at the boxes of weights, there isn't much that can go wrong with weights and the boxes they come in are handy.

You can get a few pirks in those boxes too for boat angling

if you use starlights on you rod the night fishing box has 50 in it and BELLS :D and floats with a hole for starlights (conger)for 8.99 8)

Hmm I didn't spot that night fishing one, sounds like it might be worth a look alright. 50 starlights for nine euros ain't bad.

would the fly fishing gear be any good (as a starter package), for someone who has never fly fished before? might give the mullet or sea trout a bash with it...

the fly setup is a light stream rod it would be ok for trout but very light for sea work

simple response to the flyfishin question is no. there's plenty flyfishin gear available on a shoe string but for some reason the rod that liddle had on sale cannot be used to cast, let alone present a fly.
altough all is not lost, the rod when mathed with a small dinky fixed spool is perfect for knockin brownies out of mountain stream or seriously getting to know a mulllet. i've used it around jury's in cork for mullet and you gota fight the bastards for half an hour with that rod. even the 'Waa's' get board of watchin the scrap,but its worth it to send them home to their mam,s with a salmon!

having worked in the tackle industry for a while i would have to say you get what you pay for. i have wittnest a number of these rods break with the first fish on, yet i have also sen some that dont break, so my thinking is that in the manufacturing of these rods some are made good , some are made bad, hope you get one of the good ones,, its a lottery

For reel did you get them with the fly rod ya? how'd you find it to cast? was it the 6ft rod? I tried it out in several streams and it was a disaster!

that was the 9foot rod, 4-5 weight, and yes, got em on the fly :shock: best craic ever :D

those fly outfits are quite good. the reel is crap, but you cant expect it to be that good at that price.

the rod is well worth getting.

Some guys in my Salmon/Trout club rate them as great bargains at the price. I haven't tried them myself, but I'm going to. I'm also going to get a couple of them to have for visitors to our Rainbow Trout lake.

For the cost of them, they've got to be worth it as rods to use and abuse.

agree with above, the 9 foot rod works very very well, though the reel (well especially the line) is crap ...

Id the six foot one and don't rate it-it was only fly rod they had on sale in 2004. got it in Limerick-saw me coming!
