Its been out a while as far as I know.... if its the old Quattra made with newer materials your talking about. Neil Mackellow made a few up about 6 months ago for different customers of his.
The Quattra was Mackellows favorite rod, he told me that he thought the newer version was way better than the older one, saying it was down to the newer fabrics used.

Hi Tom
Unless I`ve got the wrong end of the stick here, were Neil`s builds the quattra sport. I was wondering about an updated version of the quattra which was supposed to be in the works or am I talking about the same thing.

Hi Gents just to complcate things further there's a new Bullit on the way too!

and a new HST and a new M4 and a new Profile     Zziplex is the new....ehhhh new!! Keith
Donagh,
Back then Zziplex rods either had M = Match or T = Tournament and an S = Sport that could be used for either......I know that Mackellows Quattra's were made with a softer butt than the off-the-shelf versions, that suited his style, so he said.
I think PaddyC has one of the new Quattra's....he may chip in here

If I remember right PaddyC got the first (new) Quattra off Neil. I'm not sure how he got on with it though.

As far as im aware terry (at zziplex) has already made some standard quattra,s along with the sport models with the newer materials,he has also revampt the GS and GSI,s on the new materials too, the quattra sport is a cracking rod with tones of very usable power and some more, (i think these were primerally made for the casting court for neil) but with a tip that could easily be confussed with a match rod, its very sensitive, ive cast both types and there is very little in it for tip sensitivity between them IMO, but a real matchman might know better, as i use mine on grass and very occasionally at that!  best to give him a bell and see he may have some there in stock.. :?:
The newer ones do seem to be a bit crisper and slightly firmer in the tip than the original ones, niel reckoned if the new material was avail back when he was top of his game he would have come closer to the 300yd mark, he rates them very highly.
My quattra sport is 13ft- 5ft butt and 8ft tip, fitted with a reducer thats 1-inch in dia whitch is quite chunky compared to the newer range but still an absolute joy to use.
Terry has a whole load of new stuff in the making at the min / HST,s- LT,s- FT,s- Profiles sport- M4 evo- and the list just goes on, i dont know how he keeps up!! I will know some more next week when my order arrives with my new toys  hope this helps ,,,,,,,

Hi Paddy,
The reducer is 1 inch in diameter. Whats the Butt width at the bottom including shrink wrap?

Older model of Zziplex rod have had a nostalgic lift in the last couple of years, I have never even cast a Quattra let alone used one, but I did get Terry to make me 6 GSi's (Grand Sport intermediate aka Dream Machine) out of fond memories along with some other old favorites.....if anyone is looking for great bite detection from a user friendly casting rod, go no further....the butt diameter is 28mm and the reducer 26mm (comes as standard) today this may sound thick, but I can remember when it was one of the thinner rods out there  and well sort after as a match rod. The new generation of fabrics has added another boost to the reputation of these old legends.
Donagh, I am not 100% sure but I think the GSi is the same butt diameter as the Quattra, the reducer may be thinner due to the Quattra having thicker walls.

I was reading over John Holdens piece on the updated GSI and he said it was 29mm on the bottom 27mm on the top. Sounds fairly chunky with a 525 for my liking.
The updated Quattra was strongly recommended to me to look at for the Estuary as being a useable beast for 6oz work. I didn't look into it at the time as I went for the primo as I need a rod that would be in the 5oz range as well and would over power and I didn't realise they were out. I don't have the money for another rod now anyhow but i just had to confirm I did the right thing and as always you have to think forward for the next purchase :D

Donagh,
John Holden must measure the blank and the shrink tube, I measure the blank, as shrink tube thickness can vary quite a bit, as you know I dont use the Zziplex tube on my builds.
Personally I dont think 28mm or 29mm is that bulky, even with a 525, if your as old as me and can remember what a 216 with an Abu 7000c felt like    I also think rods have got a bit to thin, the Zziplex Profile measures 20mm, thats about as thin as I would ever want to go, I have the new Zziplex equal section Bass rod here, that butt section is 18mm thick, far to thin in my opinion, it has a nice action and will be strong enough for the job but IMHO it feels more like a Carp rod in my hands....not what I like to feel in my hand when beach fishing :)

i owned a new quattra-sport, the up-dated vesion, new mandrels and all
that, butt section is 30mm sllightly more with shrink-tube, this new
version is not a patch on the original, people who also have bought this
version have had problems working out the casting action, soft in the tip
very powerfull through the mid-section, high-swing pendulam brings
out the best in this rod, thats what neil-m. did best with it,
regards steve,
