Century Kompressor S

Anyone tried the new Century Kompressor S yet? Getting great reviews and looks the biz!!! I'm getting mine Saturday! :D

read the reviews and it seems to be the 1 for me, the SS seems to be a beast of a rod, heavy rough ground and casting! I don't need 1 that powerful or stiff, the S should be just perfect for fishing.

I had a look at them both in Henrys when they arrived and i have to say the S does seem a nicer and more user friendly rod, something just didnt feel right with the SS for my liking :? have to say they have a fantastic finish prob the best ive seen from them, but whats the gig with the metal collar on the top end of the butt :?: seems a bit too much work for it just to be a cosmetic touch, if i remember right i was told that these collars reinforce the joint area just like whipping does only on a more beefed up scale, i wonder why :?: :!: :?:

Paddy that metal collar doesnt stand up as good as kevlar...think about it, kevlar is stronger than metal, blank makers already have it, its also easier to wrap the kevlar during the manufacture.....so why take the time to grind and fit a metal collar that is weaker.....a few guys in the trade are saying they are made in the far east.

Paddy, for some reason the Chinese rod makers dont like to wrap extra carbon around the butt end, they prefer to use the little metal collar....personally I think its down to price, carbon fiber is very expensive and limited to the Chinese....if it is cosmetic then Century have got it wrong IMHO, UK & Irish anglers/casters dont like that collar in the way the Europeans do, I think you will agree.

I had heard that the rod is made in China.....wouldnt surprise me....they just need to be up-front about it.....secrets dont stay secret in the tackle trade for long :lol: :lol:

I've fired off a mail to them to see what their line is on it, we'll wait and see what they say. Either way the rod seems to be well received by anyone who has used it regardless of where it was made.

Can't wait to put it through it's paces tomorrow, I'll post my findings on Monday!

I asked was the band for Strenght or decoration. Good enough for me.

Bit of both really. The Kompressors have internal cross ply carbon reinforcements at the female (butt) joints and these are more than adequate. However we have also started using Japanese shrink rubber (JSR) above and below the joint to assist in separation. This looks better trimmed with a marine grade stainless steel band. The band will also provide additional hoop reinforcement at the joint as a secondary feature but is not essential to the performance of the rod.

Where we use a nylon and dressed tying on TT-L and CM- we now use JSR on Kompressors. The band is a neater way of finishing this off.

steel bands in my opinion are totally wrong full stop . steel is a very hard material and doesnt bend as easally as carbon so something that bends being pressed up against something that is by its own makeup doesnt bend could cause a fracture, if a blank is made properly and wrapped around the joints with more carbon in theory the joints dont even need to be whipped :!: just my opinion only time will tell :?:

The results are in, took it out for a cast yesterday! Absolutley beautiful rod, v slim and tons of power. Casting felt very smooth with very fast tip recovery, the rod done alot of the work for me, used both 5 and 6 oz leads which went very far. The rod I'm sure will be excellent for fishing too as the tip is sensitive too so small bites even at distance will show up nicely.

All in all v happy with it, looks teh biz too!!

nice bend there...looks very slim :shock: ,did you try different weights on it?? if so how it cope ?

It's very slim alright but plenty of power I used both 150 and 175 no probs with either!! It's a beaut of a rod it's given me extra yards without any extra effort!

I'll have it at the show in Swords if you want a chuck.
