I am not sure what type of battery does this....I have read it on battery instructions though. Someone may like to add more to this...I think its right.

Some batteries need to be drained right down, otherwise they can form a memory....so if a battery was fully charged, then 30 minutes was used and then you put it on charge again, it would only have a 30 minute life, until you then drain it right down and start over.

Ni-cad batteries are famous for the memory effect which happens when they are recharged without being fully discharged. This builds up over time and there would be no significent change after doing this only a couple of times. Li ion and NiMH are supposed to cut this but in reality a battery wont last forever.

Another thing worth trying, if you know someone with another samalite you can plug them both together. The battery that's not taking the charge properly takes the memory/charge from the good battery and then charges like a new one. It happened to the bro, he let the battery drain too much and it wouldn't take the charge properly/at all. I contacted samalite and purchased a new lead for a few pounds. The lead looks like the normal lead for your headlight apart from it has 2 connectors on it, the same as the usual one only on both ends to allow you to plug it into 2 batteries. That's all samalite themselves do when you send it back if it has been drained of charge. It worked a treat. He used my samalite to take the charge from, it reset the memory and allowed his to recharge fully again. You need to leave the 2 batteries plugged together for only a few minutes and then unplug the dud battery and plug it into your mains charger immediately. Hopefully this should work.

It's just like giving your car a boost start.
