If you cut across Geary heading towards the Presidio , on the LHS at the top of the hill (towards Golden Gate bridge) - there's a tackle shop there - pretty big shop. I can't remember the name as it was quite a while since I was there, but I stocked up on lures and line - was pretty cheap compared to home prices (well isn't anywhere!).

Do a search on Outdoors Clthing dealers, they usually double up as tackle shops in the US.

Ain't no Walmarts in San Francisco. The city itself doesn't have a lot to offer in terms of fishing shops (Big 5 out on Ocean Avenue, etc. are all pretty poor).

Your best option is go a few miles south down Highway 280 to Serramonte Shopping Center and check out the huge "Sports Authority" there:

Note: if you want to do any fishing in California, you'll need a licence (general and one for species/area sometimes):

Just back. Iwas rather constrained in where I could go for a number of reasons, but in the end dropped into Hi's Tackle on Clement, and Half Moon Bay Tackle in Half Moon Bay when we met up with some people down there.
HMB Tackle carry Avet reels, while Hi's is goof for a browse through..Picked up some plugs, braid and shimano baitcasters/stratics (just a few   )
