ABU Ambassadeur 6500 c3 CT mag-elite - OPinions

Anyone venture an opinion on a new one of these? I already have the old ABU Ambassadeur 6500C, but looking for something that will improve the old casting range (yes, I know a rod helps too) - without a level wind...

It's nearly 200 EURO though. Is it worht it? Or what might I look at instead?

200 euro......where are you getting it? which model is it? is it the old model or the 2007 type?

The old models are great but i dont like the new ones.

i only paid 70 sterling for mine though. if you are paying more than 150 it aint worth it. no rell is worth that much exept the daiwa 7ht turbo 8)

what sort of ground are you going to be fishing?

As far as other reels go the only multipliers i would consider for general fishing are: daiwa 7ht, penn 525 mag, abu 6500.

got one just friday 6500 c3 tested sat and sund... hm... what to say now,im not the best casting ,but felt better than 6500 elite only to reel in dogfish was a hell,there is no power in it at all i even could smell burning in the rubber handle its quick with empty hooks and maybe its my foult in something but it didn help me to get out over the snags

humm..thats interesting. have you found that the quality is better/worse than the old elites? im talking the general feel of them as opposed to the casting or any of that? i thought the premium wasnt as nice as the florida mag i have.

as I recall the quote was from SouthSide Angling - it wasn't 200 euros, but it was either 175 or 195. Either way, a significant investment I'd want to be sure about...

well not too much goin into it at the end of the day green mag stays on top of mine 6500 hi speed and pen 525 super mag thats pure my opinion based on how im able to cast so farr...

Distance aside as they will both cast the same in the average angling scenario

Personally for fishing it would be the 7ht everytime and they are cheap as chips on ebay and a bit beefier inside imo. I have cast both reels in excess of 230/40 yards ( the 7ht un-tweaked) on the court so they are up to the job!!

the thing that worries me bout the new 7ht mag is the spool speed needed to activate the mag system. 20,000 rpm is alot. will the mags work on a short cast?

20,000 revs per minute, That is 333revs per second, Suppose that is spot on. after looking at it

suppose a caster hits 200metres in say 8sec, thats 25m/sec, taking an average spool circumference of a lined spool is 70mm (0.07m). thats about 357 rev/sec. maybe the daiwa team have got it spot on and get the brakes to work at a certain speed. great thinking

You would be suprised how fast the spool actually spins with the initial power off of the lead as it can hit 200mph+.... i dont know the exact numbers but id say its not a million miles off

If the conventional spinning baitcaster can reach 15 000 to 20 000 rpm easily...with short rod....and light casting weight/lure.....

what do u reckon the rpm of the reel using by beach/court caster....with long rods....heavier weight....and a powerful cast???I bet its easier to for them to reach that rpm ....btw the above data is from shimano during the making of their dc reel....

Btw if i am not mistaken....theres no certain rpm needed for the braking system to start kickin' in braking the spool....the braking force of eddy current will varies according to the spool rpm.....starting of cast.....braking will gradually increase as spool rpm increase....after peak rpm....the braking will gradually decrease as the spool slow down....

before you jump on me about how long it takes to cast a certain distances it was only demostration purposes

first, apologies needed here from me, it is 30,000rpm actually

to take a actual quote from the daiwa add

It remains inactive until the split second your spool hits the revs.(all 30,000rpm of them in our tests)

i hope i haven't posted something i shouldn't have by taking that out of the advert.

anyway, on more thought, i have decided not to buy one a 200 sterling is just too much for a reel no matter what it is.
