hey guys! I'm new to fishing only had some basic stuff at the moment. a friend of mine is coming over from japan. of course I've asked him to buy me some new gears. i was told one of the 14' shimano surf rod is very popular over there and it''s telescopic. since telescopic casters are not that popular in Ireland, i wonder if there's anything wrong with them or it's just for different regions? thanks!

The only problem that I have with telescopic rods is that, depending on the rod and how many sections it has, it can be very thick in the butt section and uncomfortable to hold and cast.

Thanks for your help and it's quite alright on size compared to other casters. only got this site in English. Here it is

Hi again Neil,
I had hoped somebody with more experience with tele beach rods would come forward as my dealings have to do with tele spinning rods. But here goes.
Some of the drawbacks I've found;
The eyes below the tip on the top section are locked into position by pushing them down into the taper - this has a tendency to wear the varnish/sealer off the blank.
The same eyes will eventually spin around the blank while casting - this can be bad enough with a spinner but a 3-6oz lead it could lead to snap-offs and flying leads.
As I said you lock the eyes on the top section by pushing them down the taper - for the first few casts it takes very little pressure to lock them in place but the more you cast/assemble the rod the more pressure it requires to lock them and pushing the eyes hard increases the chances of damaging the blank and especially the eyes.
As I say my experience is with a spinning rod but I'm fairly sure you may experience similar problems.
I hope this is helpful and I am open to contradiction by somebody who has used a tele beachcaster
