2007 abu reels

has anyone tried the new mag elite hi-speed reel yet was thinkin of gettin one cause of the ratchet on it to replace the sports mag which has packed in

Not tried 2007 model yet but as for your other abu...send it off to abu in UK...

It'll come back like a new reel. Service is excellent. Karl Senior is the guy in abu.

Theres no major diff from the old one,s. I have fitted hi-speed gears to some of my 6500,s for casting incuding the one mac bought off me, i really dont think anyone will be making use of the 6-piont braking system either and the improved gears, well if you look after any set of gears properly you will have them for years and still be as smooth...just MO

Agree with Paddy on this one, I can't see the need for SIX brake blocks AND mags. Yes, they can be removed but the pins that hold them remain and that will slow the spool during the cast. Perhaps these were added to suit more angling styles but I dont see them being a benefit to the majority of beach anglers, though they may help those that thought that the original 6500 mags were a bit too unpredictable.

I have not seen one in the flesh yet but it will have to be a big improvement on the originals to take No. 1 beach fishing reel spot away from the current pick of the bunch - the Penn 525.
