Alrighty, if you're now considering the 7HT vs the 6500, then spare a thought for the Penn 525 Mag. Might be a bit out of your price range right now, but maybe you could bundle up Christmas and birthday pressies in one?

No i have to donate £30 of my money for the mag elite/7ht

Conor,
The casting club will be at the field next week ( 16th ) and at the beach the week after.
The best way to keep up to date with casting meets is via our website, you don't have to register to view casting details but you would have to register to post.

I will prob be gettin the 7HT because the price of the mag elite increased in price by about £15 unless there are any places that still do the £70 offer? I am not going on ebay!

Either reel would be a good buy in my opinion. You can't go wrong with the 7HT. Even if you decide you need a Mag for heavier work in a few years time, the 7HT is worth having in your collection.

What happens with the 7ht on rough ground?

Couple of things, in my expereince. It has a slower retrieve than say a Mag or a Slosh, making it harder to keep rigs away from snags.
Also, I've found problems with the clutch slipping, although I think this a particular problem with my 7HT and a lack of TLC.
Mon Dec 10, 2007 6:56 pm
That isn't as bad as i thought, I thought it would do something like tangle up or break etc. although where i bought it from it claimed to have 6:1 retrieve so i will possibly be safe

The 7HT has a similar retrieve rate to the Mag Elite, unless it is the new 6500 Mag High Speed you are comparing it with.
How rough is the ground that you are intending to fish with the reel??

I mean the normal mag elite reel.
I would fish a variety of grounds like weed or rocks for spinning sometimes but generally everything.
Mon Dec 10, 2007 11:33 pm
the 7ht has a small handle which makes it harder to bring in bigger fish then with the mag
Tue Dec 11, 2007 5:47 pm
Can't I eventually replace the handle?
Tue Dec 11, 2007 7:28 pm
the new 7ht mag, which is bloody expensive, comes with a power handle, im sure in the future you could order the power handle to fit your 7ht, 8)
