What might seem like a bargain at the time might cost you more financially in the long run, or worse still loose a fish of a lifetime. The quality of the materials in some of the cheaper reels is quite poor, bearings, gears, spindle shaft and the body itself. Many of them come from the cheaper factories in the Far East not dedicated to building quality. If you’re serious about your fishing you are better paying a little more and buying quality.

What would you pay to guarantee longevity?

Is €150 enough?

Do you think they would match up with a Penn Powerstix 13ft?

I also use Daiwa Emcast 6000 reels and team them up with Shakespeare FS rods and Century Multi rods. They work fine with both :D

I've never used the Penn Powerstick 13ft but I dont see why it wouldn't. I would opt for the 5500 size over the 6000 though!

Shimano ultegra 14000 XSB will last you for years. I would not recommend any other fixed spool. John O Brien in Waterford angling Center does them for a good price.
