thats the anti-reverse roller bearing shot anyway(assuming akios copied this off the abu reel as it seems they copied evrything else
) easy to replace id imagine but you shouldnt have to...
as regards re-engaging mid-cast you either didnt fully depress the free spool button? but the reason it seemed to happen on the abu's was neglect, the free spool mechanism(and boy is it a complicated one) if not lubricated properly will at times not pull the pinion away from the spool fully therefore causing re-engagement mid cast...
the lads at SCI are onto a good one alright by backing off the drag before casting..

i am nearly sure i didnt tip the handle. This never happened to me before with any of my other reels

This can happen with all reels, I managed to mangle a diawa 7ht mag

bring it back to the shop , its under warranty , if there is a fault with it its good news because we can see what has gone wrong and can be sorted , everyone guessing to what might have happened wont get it sorted for you .

Handles can engage while casting even without touching it, the way to avoid damage is to loosen off the stardrag

learned the hard way my self brendan, brand new 7ht turbo out of the box, reel engaged mid way through cast,,
pinion gear dead,
happens to every multiplier with this type of release mechanism, usualy simply fixed, as said before release the drag before cast

I don't really see the funny side lads. I know I'd be gutted if I'd just forked out money on a new reel and it packed in.

Not funny i know, but the reel is fully covered by its warrenty just like any other new reel, so either way he will get one back, be it a new one or his own one sorted out..
I bet its something small anyway and can be easily sorted out,, i still rate these reels very highly.

Just a quick question lads...
I know PaddyC and some of the casters on here like the Daiwa 7HT Mag and have used it and it got a big thumbs up....but if you were to buy a reel...would it be Akios or 7HT mag...(Just for fishing purposes)...surely it'd have to be the Akios considering you could nearly buy 2 of em for 1 7HT Mag?????
Cheers,

For me,,,Yes, if i still fished id be on Akios reels without a doubt.
Superb quality and as you say only half the price, and with only a diff of a few meters straight out of the box. Both good reels though,,,,

No offence Paddyc but if you havent fished with the Akios how can you stand behind it......The reel maybe cheaper but if you havent fished with the reel for at least 15/20 sessions and havent seen how it works reeling in a clump of weed while fighting a fish what makes you think this reel is good value for money and better than most tried and tested reels currently on the market?
Granted you may be able to lob a sinker a similar distance on grass but Im sure you will agree night fishing in the pishing rain and wind while your hands are wet, half covered in sand and peeler are totally different.
As you can see....Im a bit of a cynic. But I suppose time will tell eh!

Easy- We have been testing these reels for quiet a while now, from the earliest prototypes to the finished production reels, because the beach is only mins from my house i am probably down at the waters edge more often than the average angler (casting practice 2/4 days a week) and i made sure to be there in everything from rain, storms, head winds, side winds, flat/dead days, weed filled days and abviously power casting to put the reel to the test in every situation i could think of and it has proformed admirably at all times. Simples

Can't really respond to that fair play
It's good to have choice an ye have obviously done your homework on the reels, I do reckon that you won't get decent feedback untill 12 months down the line when the reels are worn in. I'd also say by the way your promoting these reels you must be on commission lad
Best of luck to ye

lads , i had a few chucks of these reels on sunday, straight out of the box 210 yards no bother,
they feel absolutly solid, if i was to buy another reel id have no problems getting one,
great piece of kit for the money.

I'll be giving mine a good testing in Gurteen fishing on Saturday and will report back with my findings! I've also been very impressed with the inital look , feel and performance of the reels but as you say time will tell. However Paddy being the perfectionist he is, would certainly of found any potential flaws it had! ( he's really a big hacker)
Best of luck to them either way, lets not fear change!!

Im a 7ht mag freak ( I have 5)
But I am very impressed with the akios and considering the price of 1 7ht mag = 2 akios, I will be getting my self a pair. They seem very solid and well built and Im sure they will stand the test of time.
