Tripod recommendations ...

I just got the Shakespeare Salt one and had it out a few times. I find it really sturdy and pretty easy to set up. The bag makes the weight negligible (I always carry too much stuff anyway so used to being knackered by the time I reach a mark!) - carried along the South Wall pier in Dublin no probs. Adjustable legs are very handy and there isn't a chance of it blowing over. I rate it anyway.

Hi Adam, i looked at this one in a tackle shop the other day it was set up with the Shelter, looks the biz alright, they also had the golds, but the golds stand resembles a mustad stand that i had previously and i had huge trouble with it, Adam you might let me know how you get on with it,

How can you compare a golds stand to a mustad it's like saying a ford resembles a Volkswagen and i had huge trouble with the ford doo????

Lets face it most other tripods that look like Ian Golds are copies which are made to look like it but they don't perform as well. The supermatch is tried and tested

Hi, on the Salt I've had it out 3 or 4 times now and had no trouble iwth it. It is slightly heavier, however like I said that is offset by the bag. I went for the Shakespeare ahead of Ian Gold because I mainly use public transport and Golds didn't do the spec I wanted that packed down as small. Plus I only paid 45 for it! It is also very very sturdy and despite the cups and hooks being stored separately still sets up quickly. The adjustable leg system is great and very easy to get the right set up depending on conditions. Do watch out for the bottom leg as it is sharp though!

when i drive to fish i bring the stand, when i cycle, the bike multi-tasks as a stand!
never let me down yet
lost more fish using a stand anyway!!!!! yerself holding the rod is the best stand ever!
get a lighter rod if this doesn't work!
some fish don't bite twice !

I have the ian golds telescopic. Grand and light. No complaints but you'd want to weight it down with somethin in strong winds.
