Paddy, for some reason the Chinese rod makers dont like to wrap extra carbon around the butt end, they prefer to use the little metal collar....personally I think its down to price, carbon fiber is very expensive and limited to the Chinese....if it is cosmetic then Century have got it wrong IMHO, UK & Irish anglers/casters dont like that collar in the way the Europeans do, I think you will agree.
I had heard that the rod is made in China.....wouldnt surprise me....they just need to be up-front about it.....secrets dont stay secret in the tackle trade for long![]()

The metal ring is to replace whipping (coloured thread) not carbon, which strengthens the rod as you dont rely on thread.
