slosh 30 with out a shadow of a dout....i have the sl30 and sl20hv and they are one hell of a reel for the rocks especially the sl30 big spool so you can get plenty of 30lb on it

i'd even suggest getting the sl30sv. i have this and the origional and find it a superior reel. the handle is is better then the origional and there appears to be a smoother drag

I use the 20 for mixed/broken ground or when there is alot of weed on the beach. The 30 is just a nice size for the rough stuff, mine are both originals and have never let me down.
The HV models have basically the same line capacity but are a bit faster when casting, some people find the need to slow them a bit to make them controlable ( have seen a 30hv spin for a LLLOOONNNGGG time in free spool  )

I have found the 20 to be a more balanced reel the 30 a little to wide for heavy shore work. I have used 25 lbs line in the past and have landed conger to 32lbs from the rocks at Ballyreen two years ago .

i use the 30 and its a beast yu can pull the lead right up out of the depts of any rocky gound with just a few turns of the handle.

Hi james,
I have a 20 for the rougher stuff and love it, a dream to cast, never had a birdie with it either. Great cranking power for heavy fish and weed etc.
Highly recommend 1, ur welcome to have a chuck with it if you want.

I agree a slosh 30 is all you'll ever need for that type of fishing :!:

I have the SLOSH30 - original model.
I must agree with all the comments above, the winding power in these reels is very impressive.
I use mine for rough ground and conger fishing. I have it loaded with 30lb Berkley Fireline plus 60lb leader tied with a bimini twist - VERY VERY strong set up and even when trying to pull for a break, you will need to use a lot of strength.
The only drawback I find with the 30 is that if you have small hands, it can be difficult to cast, the 20 is easier to cast but you lose out on line capacity on the spool with the 20.
You can get them for around £60 - 70.

I have original SLOSH20,it doesn`t hold a lot of 30lb line but chances are if you are going to be fishing rough ground you wont need to cast over 100yards anyway.great reel and they have plenty of grunt to pull in big fish.congers etc :)

im using the sl30 for a lot of my boat and rough stuff recently bought a sl30hv and gotta say it feels superior esp in casting but it is fast nothing tightening up wont sort id spend the little extra and buy the 30 hv

used my slosh 30 today and found the spools spins very fast is there any way of slowing it down when casting into a headwind?

Is the reel new??
Not being smart but have you fitted the brake blocks? They are not fitted as standard
If you have then I would suggest thicker oil, some people will tell you to wind down on the spool end tension but I have seen too many reels with wrecked bearings or bent spindles caused by that.
The other thing to look at is the line - is it wound on level and what diameter is it?

The slosh are the best reels i ever used for sheer toughness and reliability as they seem to keep going on and on with out clogging up or getting stiff like other reels, mine runs today the same it did the day i first used it.
