Headtorch recommendations

I need to buy a decent head torch for this Winter.
Can anyone advise me to look at some better quality choices? It's not really an area of expertise on my part......

The Silva L1 is the best Ive used all things considered. Its an LED headlight thats long lasting, tough, lightweight, powerfull and well worth the money. Should cost you around the €100 mark.

Just to through another into the mix a Princeton Apex available from the states (Ebay) same spec as the Silva for around £50.

Silva all the way, by far the best, Princeton are supposed to be pretty good too but I don't see many Princeton wearers as above.

Hi Martin the Silva lamps come with a clip on cover that turns the light red :)

This post got me considering an upgrade of my own headlamp, which just isnt powerful enough.

I did a bit of interent research last night, and found that amongst the mountain biker/athletic community the Princton Tec Apex seems to be the most highly acclaimed headlamp in the sub €100 price bracket.

They released a upgraded model early this year which gives 130 lumens of light.

That by all accounts is stronger than the Silva L1 and LX.

I have found a few usa ebay sellers of the Princeton Tec Apex 130 lumens model for around $70 + p/p.

Strangely, the ebay adverts list it as being 60 or 80 lumens but when I sent one of the sellers a message he did confirm it is 130 lumens.

I ordered one this morning, it will be a few weeks before I get it what with postage from the states and all, but I'll post a review of it once I've used it a few times.

I dont doubt what the guys are saying about quality of the Silva L1 and LX, but as with most fishing gear, your paying a premium for the brand name.

So it seems if you're going up the mountains on a bike get the Princeton, if it's for fishing get the Silva :D

Like anything in life the best always costs a little bit more. I have at least 20 cheap headlights too which all do exactly what i need, baiting up on a dark beach but yet the Silva is the first 1 i pick up everytime I go out.

Let us know how the Princeton performs, also seems a fine headlight.

I tend to think that people jump on the bandwagon a bit where fishing tackle is concerned.

From what research I did last night the Princeton seems to be brighter and just as durable/hard wearing, and I just think its a case of people not being too familiar with the brand, were as the silva's are the brand that most anglers are aware of.

Let us know how the Princeton performs, also seems a fine headlight.

Will do.........and who know's maybe after my report (if its glowing..pardon the pun  ), you'll all be rushing out to purchase Princeton Tec Apex headlights

BTW eric, is that your silva headlamp that starts/stops working of its own free will your recommending :?:

it does turn on and off a bit when the battery gets quite low on full setting

Most of my mates have princeton-tecs ,some of them mountainbikers some fishermen , both groups love them ,and if it's robust enough to take a fall attached to the head of a Hairyassed biker bouncing of a tree then standing around getting damp on a beach should be no problem
