Cheating a wee bit with this report, but I'm sure it will interest some nonetheless.
There was a meeting on Monday evening of the NW charter skippers. Des Mills, who skippers the Barracouda out of Culdaff, Co Donegal (Inishowen) arrived excitedly with a big carrier bag.
He had been in Greencastle the previous day just as a trawler was coming back in. They had on board a 30lb Pollock caught off the Donegal coast. Suspecting that the details may have been put down as another fisherman's tale, Des had cut off the head and brought it for all to see. Apparently it was huge.
We are trying to find out exactly where the trawler had been fishing - if I find out I'll report it later - quite possibly by text from a charter boat fishing in the huge pollock grounds off Donegal!
My PB is 12lb - I can't begin to imagine what a 30lb-er would be like.
