Shannon Estuary-Fr July 7th

Weather: sw3, then 4, then 5, then got the hell out of there
High tide 2ish
Thanks to posts from screaming reels last week,we ran over to littor strand and picked up mackerel almost on the beach. A stong and gusting wind with tide made for some serious waves running up the estuary. Anchoring was difficult at first, and with the wind constantly building we kept getting knocked off anchor.
After a frustrating hour where we fished for 10 minutes and spent the rest repositioning and re anchoring, we gave up.
We decided to take a run up to moneypoint as it should be more sheltered. Wrong!!
A small craft warning issued at 11 am, and our complete inability to anchor anywhere near moneypoint, signalled the end of the day.

Disappointed , but got some good data on features and areas in the estuary for further exploration
Oh, and a super carrier of some sort that passed 3/4 mile away carrying airplane wings up the shannon, produced a wake that we missed.
On looking up, nearly 10 minutes after the vessel had disappeared, a 2 metre wave crashed over the front of the cabin and soaked us. How we laughed!!
Something to watch for in future
Next week, conger and bass!!
