Puca-Shannon estuary – 25th June
Fished 10am –18.30, low water 11 high 5pm
Winds N-NW 4 eventually 6
Crew-Me and Edwin

Ran out to loop head on an ebb tide, lovely and smooth run to meet a really choppy unpleasant sea off the head
This meant mackerel fishing from the chair as there was a real roll and kick to the boat in the swell
Mackerel were there but close in to the head and cliffs which was fairly heaving. A really short stay saw enough mackerel for bait, but not enough for the rubby dubby. We were fishing 100 yards from a charter boat, and it appeared and disappeared behind every swell. Common sense getting the upper hand, we left and ran back up the estuary towards littor strand
With the tide staring to flood hard, flapppers were launched uptide. With the wind coming across the tide and building, we were fairly battered for the rest of the day. We were forced to re anchor on a couple of occasions as we were broadsided by 3 foot waves running across the tide.
However, tricky conditions aside, the tope arrived and played ball.
8 runs, 6 hook ups and 5 fish landed. All male pack tope between 23 and 28 lbs with a larger fish lost at the side of the boat. Great fishing with a double hook up at one point .
A physically exhausting but great day out

Good report - I even feel sick reading it.

Great Report Kev,

Great to see the boat handled such conditions.
