Killybegs - Findlater Comp

Wed May 10, 2006 4:08 pm

Weather was very poor, force 4 to 6 south east and pissing rain for a while, didn't feel much like spring/summer. Virtually all boats fished around the point head and the mill bank and pollock were not surprisingly the main catch, wrasse and ling also featured. Finished up with 8 pollock but it was really hard work.

Good to put a face to a name with Big Phil, didn't see you there Donal? I didn't go to prize giving so don't know who won or how many points, maybe you do Phil?

With an entry of 70 anglers the fishing was poor to say the least but catches averaged about 7 counting fish per angler with the majority of catches being pollack, with some pouting, cuckoo and ballan wrasse, poor cod, ling and cod thrown in as well. conditions werent great and the fishing was mainly around the inshore areas of st. john's point

The winner of the Findlater Cup (all ireland individual) was Dan Lynch with 144 points, 2nd Alan Redmond 143, 3rd Lynd McKee 138, 4th Adrian Austin 136 and 5th Josie Barratt 134

The interprovincial Tyler Cup was won by Connaught, with Ulster 2nd, Munster 3rd and Leinster 4th.

The Shalimar Sup (all ireland ladies winner) was Angela Crerand of Lough Swilly SAC 114 points with Kathleen Donnellen of Connaught 2nd on 102 points

All in all it was good to meet a few friends old and new and get a few fish as well, thanks must go to the organisers - Killybegs SAC and the Ulster Provincial Council of the IFSA for a well run competition.

Next year it will be the turn of MunsterPC to host the competition.
