Great day out yesterday with a fair few boats cruising around picking up lots of mackerel. So after picking up enough for bait we headed out to a mark to get doggies, ray and loads of whiting. Then on to a rock mark and picked up pollock, cuckoo wrasse, pouting, cod and a very small but most unexpected monkfish (my first ever) so what a great new species to get to the boat. We tried for smoothhound, tope and the like but no joy, Im sure there has to be some around there so we will try another mark for them next time (hopefully next week).

Ah, the monkfish! I assume you are talking Anglerfish, (Lophius or monkfish in the restaurant) as opposed to the angel shark (Squatina) aka monkfish? Nice fishing, trying to build up a bit of stamina at the moment before I venture out to sea!

Out again yesterday, no bait fishing but what a day on lures. Two of us on the boat caught well over 70 pollock and funnily enough the majority were over 4lbs and ranging to a good number up to 9/10lbs. We never had a day even come close to that and because we decided to fish the lightest spinning rods we had, that made it all the more fun. Our arms are still feeling it today. A couple of coalies, cuckoo and corkwing wrasse and a couple of mackerel. 5 fish kept for tea and rest went back.
