Fine Catch 2, back on the Blues Sunday 28 Sep 14.

Postby paul rea » Sat Oct 04, 2014 11:57 am

Early Start for Sean (SeanA101080) & myself at 7:00 am out on my warrior 175 fishing for mackerel for the rubby dubby in Cork Harbour before heading outside the Harbour to one of our spots for a bit of jigging as we were waiting for our colleague on his warrior 165 to join us. We landed 5 Pollock 3 - 4lbs within the hour before heading out to our previous Blue shark fishing spot that we visited on 08 Sep 14.

With the rubby dubby bag over the side of the boat, first mackerel bait in the water and within 10 mins we were on with our first blue of the day. The battle went on for about 15 – 20 mins, some view looking down into the clear water watching the Blue shark swimming around under the boat. We were able to release the hook from the shark from the side of the boat; we let the shark calm down before swimming off.

We had a bit of a breeder to have a cuppa before our next blue was on, not as big as the first, still put up a good battle.
We had 2 takes with the sound of the line being stripped and a small battle before the line became slack again and the mackerel stripped from the hook. Also our college had a take on white feathers; he had some battle for about 10mins until the line snagged off his outboard and broke (at a guess a big cod / Pollock maybe ??).

Finally we had a third blue on with another good 15 min battle to finish off our Blue Shark fishing 2014 season, roll on 2015 Blue shark fishing season.

Ya on our first trip a few weeks earlier we brought the shark in and unhooked them but for this trip we wanted to release them without bringing them in. There's probably a better/ easier way of doing it. We're new to the shark game so we probably have lots to learn. Cheers

Just use a T bar when they are hooked in the mouth. Early strike gives a lot more mouth hook ups, does mean you miss a few but they tend to come back anyway.
