People: Myself and father in law

Duration:11.00 - 1600

Tide:

Weather: Glorious sunshine

Bait: rag.

Rigs: baited feathers

Results: 4 species. Pollack, Codling, Whiting and Ballan Wrasse.

Report:
Just a quick report hadn't been fihing in a while and got a phone call from the other half's father to say he wanted a trip out as he had the day off. We hired one of the boats from bulloch harbour and although not the cheapest of adventures we really wanted to get out and enjoy the weather.

Only managed 8 fish between us 3 sizeable wrasse. I managed 7 of the fish and was delighted to bag my first ever codling. He caught one on his penultimate drop. Rag baited feathers did the job. The glorious weather distracted from the slow enough fishing.

I hear the mackerel are very few and far between out of Bulloch this year. Was thinking of taking my young lad out from there this weekend but might wait a few weeks more. Was the codling any size?

Hi mick,

The codling wasn't any size but won't be long growing. He had my rag baited feathers, a small crab and other small item stuffed down his throat.

We used to catch loads of small codling at a certain spot off killiney years back and they were always stuffed with tiny crabs. Always too small to keep. There must be a nursery area for codling (and crabs) out there

At least you's got out and caught some fish thats the main thing, there is plenty of fish to be caught out there at the moment mackerel might be scarce but tons of other stuff to keep you busy, have a look at some of my reports in the boat section with the heading
Dublin Boat Marks (IMELDA) to see what can be caught

Believe me John it was a much needed session clear the head. Will be trying it again at some stage soon. Be better prepared for it too. The father in law has been told of a conger spot that he is mad to put to the test. Mackerel being scarce wouldn't bother me as I enjoyed tagging on a cod to the species list be it small or big. Will make sure to look up your reports.
