Culdaff specimen size Scad

People: CathalD and Myself

Duration:6 hours

Tide: big!

Weather: mixed, bright spells

Bait: mack and lures

Rigs:3 down, 2 down, 3 up, sabikis

Results: mackerel, tope, scad, lsd, dabs, spotted ray, blonde ray, tub/grey/red gurnard, whiting, coalie, pollack

Report: Fished at anchor for most of the day 5 minutes from the pier, Cathal had a rogue tope of about 30lb on a flattie rig on the second drop which gave him a good struggle, broke the trace at the side of the boat, some power in that fish in less than 20m of water on lgiht gear. Fished through the tides and had continuouis doggies, rays and dabs with a few gurnard mixed in. Had one drift i the bay which turned up some whiting and more greya nd red gurnards some of which were very large. Ended the session looking for pollack on the lure rods and after an hour with 4/5 smallish fish boated and we drifted for a few fresh macks for the tea. Got an unexpected take on the drift and it turned out to be a huge scad of 1.6lbs! A great looking fish and the type of thing you'd love to catch everyday, if only they were always that size!
