Sun Jun 01, 2014 8:38 am

People: brother and myself

Duration:8 hours

Tide:4 hrs ebb, 4 flood

Weather: glorious morning, overcast afternoon

Bait: mackerel, squid, sandeel

Rigs: 3 hook down, 3 up, flowing traces, shamrock rigs, lures.

Results: Pollack, coalies, red, grey gurnard, poor cod, pouting, whiting, LSD, mackerel, dab, Turbot,

/b]: launched in tropical conditions with the bay flat calm and the temperature still rising at 11am. Began to search for mackerel however after several attempts in the usual spots gave up and moved onto a small wreck http://youtu.be/Uj32a6p4vNg and fished on the drift and at anchor. Pulled lots if coalies on the lure gear and pouting and poor cod off it but not a single Pollack or anything bigger, unfortunately we had no worms or crab for wrasse. Moved onto the sand and picked up fish on every shot for a few hours at anchor, nothing big, best dab about 37cm and a turbot of about the same size, no rays which was disappointing. Tried the reefs for pollack for the final hour if the day and had a few decent scraps with fish around 5lb on the light lure gear. All in all patchy enough fishing but great day to be afloat, had a few dozen mackerel in the evening on the flood tide when I had the 2 young nieces aboard for their first short run out. They were taking them in 5 at a time on the 10-40g lure rod and size 3000 reel so had a real battle!

I'd have been happy with a day like that! Pollock still on their holidays down here too, only "snots" showing up so far.
