Dublin Boat Marks (IMELDA) 19/6/13

Postby JOHN1 » Fri Jun 21, 2013 2:02 pm

People:LEONIE KYLE AND I

Duration: 8 hours

Tide:ebb/flood

Weather:great again

Bait: rag crab Mack sandeel squid

Rigs:various

Results:(10) species. Hounds, thornback Ray ,LSD, Pollack , whiting mackerel ,grey gurnard, cod, dab, poor cod .

Report:This was the second attempt to get the two teens out for a decent session after been blown out last week. Weather looked great so we made the most of it, loaded up with grub drinks and sun block. I had hi hopes of getting them into some nice fish after my success with the hounds the day before. armed with frozen fish baits and fresh crab we headed off first stop was for fresh mocks at the spot I got them on Tuesday gave it half hour we managed 7 so off we went. rods geared up and baited with a mix of baits it wasn’t long before the dogs found them I set a small rod up in search of a few more species had dabs whiting and some nice grey gurnards best was 36cm a nice little grey. With the tide easing we were able to change weights to make it a bit on their arms. fishing over slack things went very quiet as the tide turned fishing improved again with a few hounds making an appearance none big but Kyle again managed another species so happy days. a while later my 6lb class rod arched over like a plumbers spring, I grabbed it out of stand and set the hook nice fish on it had the feeling of a ray so gave the rod to Leonie as she had caught ray before but they were all small, she had only been saying earlier in the day that she didn’t think she would be able to reel in a big one, so she set about playing the fish on the light rod and very small multi with braid she struggled at times with the fish that was using the running tide to it’s advantage so I lended her a bit of a helping hand pumping the fish for her when I seen she needed it. After a few minutes and over 80 ft of water she had the fish up to the net a fine male Thornback Ray touching the scales at an impressive 7lb on the nose when we got home, i must mention at this stage it was killed as we love eating ray and leonie loves nothing like a nice bit of ray with chips and curry sauce poured over it
So she was very happy with that so was I but she wouldn’t accept that she had caught the fish herself because it was on my rod and I gave her a hand so the way she sees it the two of us caught it so that’s the way it is, nothing like honesty when it comes to fishing and sport.
Weather turned with a brisk SE blowing so in we headed for a bit of mixed fishing, managed to set up a nice drift that had us all on fish every time Pollack and wrasse made up most of it with an odd decent wrasse for good measure best one went to Kyle again with a cracker at 42cm. 8)
They were kept busy with this kind of fishing and asked why we didn’t do that type of fishing for the whole day some people are just so hard to please, another great day out and some very good quality time spent with my quickly grown up girl and her boyfriend.
There will be a next time as both really enjoyed their day afloat. :D

Nice one John, if only my missus had the same enthusiasm for the fishing. We went around to Killiney Bay to look at all the big houses and try and spot some dolphins (without success), and I just about managed to squeeze in 10 minutes fishing, catching a couple of wrasse & Pollack. I think I'll leave her at home next time!
