Report:headed off for a days fishing with herself on sunday weather was supposed to be brilliant with flat seas again, off i went launched boat myself and she got dropped down to me for 12pm ready to go only problem was there was a stiff se and tide turning against wind made a nice chop, needless to say she wasnt happy i had to explain a few things and told her it would settle down later and i was right it did but it took quite a while to convince her. when she seen i was getting into a few fish codling pollack and wrasse id didnt take long before she took a rod down to get in on a bit of action now she has a fair bit of angling experiance under her belt so she is well capable of cutting up mack for bait and no problem handling rag, she managed to get bitten by a nice big rag for the first time on sunday which was quite a shock big for her
Couldn travel too far in the conditions so made the most of what we had, plenty of hire boats around too now this is where things very nearly went very wrong, we are having a little tea break and a nice salad sandwich im looking towards the sun hearing some engine noise and she sitting under the cuddy when she says to me where is this lad going I turn around waving my hands and sandwich frantically in the air screaming at this poxy hired longliner coming into my portside at full throttle about 20 feet away bu some chance the passenger up front looked around seen us and told the fool at the twist grip to turn which he did with a split second to spare my reaction was to get to the stern to push the bow away from my boat this was a very near disaster he got the remains of my sandwich in his face it was that close what did he say SORRY. I was heard from the shore shouting at him, Now all I wanted to do was go in after him and dish out some punishment, luckily I had someone with me that advised me against this, the way I am at the moment I cant be getting myself stressed but this did not help me at all so I put it down to a very bad experience talking to a life boat friend of mine yesterday that seen it happen cant believe how blessed I was. I was fairly shook up about it to be honest.
What could we do only carry on fishing we were then in a front seat position when the rescue helicopter made an appearance to make an airlift from rocks where a lad had a badly broken leg another bit of excitement for us to see this, air lift done then about an hour later another girl stretchered off rocks with a badly damaged leg rockdiving at low water is not a good idea.
In this time the sea had settled down to flat we could have went to Wales but we stayed a bit more local again picking up some great wrasse best I had was 45cm I also managed a very rare Dublin cuckoo wrasse another nice one for my species hunt, as it was getting near to 9pm we decided to head home, again arriving at the slip we were met by two FN boats with buckets and bags full with all sorts of very undersized fish including codling Pollack whiting and lumps of wrasse, not to mention the cans of Budweiser, someone actually compared these with seals in fact I think they are worse than seals no fish is safe with them.

you can say that again jim not sure havent really got a chance to play with it propperly not sure which are the best basic settings for it maybe a pm on the basics you use might put me right

I'm starting to rethink the usual grounds I fish as its boat traffic is gone crazy with the good weather we have had. I've had a close encounter myself, glad to hear your both ok.As for the fookers killing the fish they should be punished

bless your calm and your guardian angel John, there are always a few to ruin a perfect day, things we have to get used to I guess...

Glad to hear yourself and the wife are ok and we're not reading about a tragic accident caused by a bunch of numptys in their hired boat. Don't get me started on the undersized fish, I have seen lots of undersized fish been kept the last few weeks and no matter how many times I say it to the people keeping them, they just shrug their shoulders and carry on fishing.

I'm glad yous survived that, same thing happened to us in Dalkey a couple of years ago not a pleasant experience. well done on the Cuckoo Wrasse would love one especially a male.

All's well that end's well John,,,,or so they say! Some lovely fish caught all the same ,well done on what was a truly eventful day and just as well you had a calming influence on board!

Glad to hear yourself and your wife are ok, some of theese cabbages dont realise how dangerous this sort of irresponsible carry on is, I had a similar expierience myself last year.



The undersize fishing is happening all over i have seen it in clare/galway ,wexford and in dublin..

too many times i have tried to explain the repercussions of what this does ,but sure wasting my sweetness on the dessert air.......................
