People: Me & Vik

Duration: 2 hours

Tide: start of ebb

Weather: Cloudy, warm, moderate NW

Bait: Ragworm

Rigs: 20g Sonik SK4 spin rod, size 1 hook, 1/2oz drilled bullet

Results: 1 x Pollack, 7 x Codling, 1 x Launce, Pin Whiting

Report: We set off after work with the hope of catching some fresh Macks to use as bait later in the weekend. I'd heard some sketchy reports of some been caught the last couple of evenings from Dun Laoghaire. The 1st 40 mins or so we drifted with feathers but caught nothing but whiting and a solitary Launce. Change of tic tacs, so we motored into some turbulant water next to the island in about 30-40ft and chucked out a ragworm just behind a drilled bullet and let it sink down. BANG, a Pollack of about 2lbs that fought like a fish twice that size on the light gear. Next we moved around the back of the Island amongst the pot bouys, and using the same method had 7 Codling in about half an hour. Great craic, and 1 was kept for the pan. All in all, a great bit of fun. Shame about the Macks though.

Ate half of him this evening and he was tasty. Other fillet is in the fridge. Bag 'o chips from the Noggin Grill and a tin of mushy peas, you couldn't beat it with a big stick!
