Report:
Headed out with Richard Connor last Sunday morning from Ballycastle on the very modern Causeway Lass. After some light jigging in the bay for some bait fish we headed north for our first wreck site. In about 35m of water I was using Tsunami 5/0 black feather rigs and they were absolutely hammering the Pollock and Coalfish. At one stage I was hauling them in 3 at a time (see pic). I lost a few rigs to inexperience by not pumping the rod imediately on getting a bite. The big Pollock were breaking for the wreck and never coming back
We then departed to another wreck which unfortunately was not as fruitful so Richard took us well out into the North Channel in 100m of water to go after the bigger stuff. This really was an eye opener. We were using 8/0 muppet rigs and running traces. The weights were ginormous to hold the outfit vertical in that depth
The fishing gods did not shine on us however 
we had to head back closer inshore as the swell was getting higher and the cold really was intense I was wearing multiple layers and a full flotation suit and you could still feel it biting Closer inshore we resumed battering the Pollock again, most were a good size from 5-10lb and there was plenty smaller returned back to fight again. By the end of the day we had a great box of fish to take home and display for dinner, I am a hunter/gatherer extraordinaire
I'm a shore angler at heart but I look forward to my occasional trips on the Causeway Lass. You're well looked after and Richard supplies good quality Penn Senator 50lb reels and rods for the day.
