Wed Jul 18, 2012 12:30 pm

People: Myself and 1 other

Duration: 5 hrs

Tide: 2 hrs flood 3 hrs ebb

Weather: overcast, mist, rain, SW 2-3

Bait: Rag and mack

Rigs: 2 up & 1 down, 3 down, flowing trace, hokkais,

Results: Red gurnard (30+), grey gurnard (10+), tub gurnard (1), whitiing (30+), dab, coalie, pollack, ballan wrasse, mackeral, (flounder nearly!)

Report:

Managed an evening out on the small boat in the shelter from the southwest wind. It was a damp evening with persistent rain for the last few hours but we managed a good variety of species. Fishing on the clean ground was good for the first time this year with expected numbers of gurnards and small whiting. We shifted in to the rough and tried for wrasse and pollack however only caught a few of each which was surpising after last weeks pollack frenzy. Had mackerel on every spot we stopped which is encouraging and once again there was a lot of baitfish marking on the sounder and plenty of bird activity. We anchored on sand and mixed ground and got bugger all which is strange, not even a doggie. Managed to entice a flounder off the bottom at one point with an un-baited sabiki rig i use for launce, he followed trice in water less than 8m deep over the sand and was less than 2m from the surface when he turned both times! All in all another decent trip out with plenty of fish but still not consistent fishing on all grounds.

Good stuff Rob, will be at a wedding on the 4th but there is a league trip on the 5th if you fancy a bit of wreck/mixed fishing or we can do something on wee boat either 5th or 6th.
