Gemini II Culdaff Donegal 20th May 2012

Postby CiaranMcFish » Mon May 21, 2012 2:05 pm

People: 9 Culdaff SAC

Duration:10:00-17:00

Tide: LW 12:00

Weather: ESE 3/4 overcast

Bait: Mackerel and Rag

Rigs: Flowing traces/shads/3 hook pat/etc

Results: Pollack/coalies/pouting/mackerel/cuckoo wrasse/ballon wrasse/ling/grey gurnard/whiting

Report: Culdaff SAC's first boat league trip of 2012, nice to get started after all the bad weather over the past few months. First drop for mackerel produced full strings for most people which is a good sign for Culdaff at this time of year as they can be scarce until mid june sometimes. We fished the wrecks of the Argo Delos and the Cumberland for a few hours each and picked up pollack to 8lb and lots and lots of coalies. Some decent pollack for this time of year and nice to get a bend in the rod with a brace of 5 pounders on a 2 hook flowing trace. We fished around Inishtrahull Island for a few minutes and had a few ballon wrasse and picked up a few grey gurnard and whiting on the clean ground on the way back in. All in all a good start to the season and here's hoping we get better weather to get at the inshore marks for some hard fighting wrasse and pollack and mixed sand fishing.

Certainly is Corney, you can see the fear on that Cuckoos face, it doesnt know if Danos going to kiss it, or bite its head off
Happily that one returned to the depths!

At least as every week passes now Ciaran, there will be more species showing up!

Any word of you fishing any of the open boat comps this summer Robin?
Lough Foyle outa Greencastle is on Sunday June 24th & Culdaff is on July 21st & 22nd.

Fishing and Craic will be mighty, good prize money on offer at both as well.

I'll keep the July comp in mind Paddy. I'm getting hitched at the end of June so don't think I'd get away with 24th June
