I have never taken a ray. Totally catch and release. I caught quite a few this year and all went back alive. Hopefully they will be back again next year and a few pounds heavier!

The lads I fish with regularly have the same policy especially when it comes to ray.
with respect are you telling me you never take a fish for the table? come on the truth; its just hard to beleave;

Gerry, believe it if you wish. Just because you take ray doesnt mean everyone does.

I have no problem with someone taking a fish for the table - thats not going to wipe out the stocks.
I do not agree with someone taking boxes of them though and thats why I replied to this post in the first place.

Personally, I have taken the odd fish of other species but not ray.

I dont fish to catch food...I fish for the enjoyment of fishing and long may it continue!

Why is it so hard to believe that people do not keep fish? I very rarely keep any fish and try ensure others on the boat do the same. in fact i don't think i kept any fish this year bar a few mackerel for bait. Enthusiastic anglers have long gotten over the 'trophy fish syndrome'. i take photos. if people don't wanna believe - fine. I don't lie. thats just childish and if you think about it, really quite sad... That said if someone really wants to keep a fish i would not argue with them. It's just my personal beliefs. I love fish. I love all sea food. I just like the idea of a fine fish swimming away a lot more!

Rays are still very scarce on the north coast
