Hi, we went 12 miles offshore as on the days previous boats closer in had no success. Its also important to get passed the influence of the water coming out of the shannon estuary, and along the coast.
Just a normal rubby dubby with no secret additions was used. ( 3 day old mackeral, mushed up with bran flakes)
Terminal tackle was 10/0 hook, heavy duty clip link attached to 6/0 swivel and 8 feet of 250lb wire, i use the heavy wire , more for its resistance to being bitten through, and when the shark is near the boat they often role like crocodiles, wrapping themselves into the wire, if they reach the mono, it most often breaks.
I use 50lb mono for the reel line
hope this helps, good luck, ( oh, its also helps if there is a bit of wind to get u moving on the drift, u cover a bigger area that way)
