People: shane davy luke and jw

Duration: 0930-1630

Tide: high at 9am

Weather: bitterly bitterly cold east breeze

Bait: fresh rag, frozen everything

Rigs: three hook pater, devil rig, pollack traces

Results: pollack, coalie, ballans, cuckoos, cod, whiting, pouting, haddock, poor cod and lesser weever

Report: plenty of ice to be broken through in the freshwater of kilrush marina if thats your thing.
mackerel are still being caught off the shore at ross, we did not spend much time chasing them
Large shoal of bottlenoses are feeding on something close to the mark known as black rock.

the ballan seem to be one of the commonest winter fish around this vicinity,
even rising in the water to take unbaited pollack rigs, first time ive seen a
weever from the deep water

Nice fishing lads 8) what kind of depth where ye hitting the Ballan at?

hi fisherking,

if you were to ask the marine biologists they would tell you the ballans are
found in depths up to 20 meters, i guess nobody told the wrasse cause
we were getting them in over 40 meters !
