Results:3 MACKEREL

Report:decided that we would go out for a wee fish to see what we could get and were quite disappointed. i got three mackerel on my first go about 300yds out of the harbour and completly blanked after that

It happens. Next time if you're blanking, slice a mackeral into 3ins long strips, stick a few on the feather hooks, drop them to the bottom, and drift. Usually something down there.

if i thought that i was going to blank after thats exactly what i would have done but i thought that we were on to alot of fish

Apologies....

Macks have gone patchy round here too. Was out last Friday in Killala Bay and got about 50 in 15 mins after motoring around looking for them. Previous week nearby only got six in 3 hours, but lots of pollock down deep. I think this time of year the sprat shoals have mostly dispersed and the well-fed macks are just doing the odd bit of foraging as they head south again. They're good and fat when you get them.
