Report:
Headed out yesterday morning with Db for a crack at the tope we heard were running. Straight out of the harbour, drop for mack and withing 15 mins picked up enough for the day!
On we charged to a mark that usually throws up a few tope, but lo & behold half the small boat community of Ireland was already anchored up on it, great sign we thought! Unfortunately 3 hours later we didn't have so much as a run and at one point I counted 15 boats all anchored up fishing within a mile of each other.
Dennis knew of another mark we could try, so we motored onwards in search of the shark!! The tide run at this other mark was phenomenal, we tried to anchor up a couple of times but couldnt because of the run so drifted the reef next to it a few times and had cod & as many mackeral as you could shake a stick at, the place was thick with them. We eventually tied up off a bhoy, and got our mackeral baits down.
15 mins later I had the first run of the day, not a screeching run but certainly a tope, I struck into her and she took off, great scrap and 10 mins later lifted her into the boat, maybe 35lbs.
About an hour later Dennis had a run, struck in and he landed a lovely fish of about 30lbs. Job done, a great day out and had some fresh mackeral on the BBQ last night, terrific stuff!
