Fri Aug 06, 2010 3:47 pm

People:Self and Bolger

Duration:11.00 - 18.00

Tide:Low 12.50

Weather:Force 3 and blustery at times

Bait:Mack,squid,launce

Rigs:Usual

Results:Macks,launce,1 smoothie,1 tope-let ,dogs, trained the deal to jump out after mackarel

Report:

Went out of Bulloch and tried up to right for mack .Getting the odd one but half the time the rod locked over and the seal had it .Hilarious the first time the fright he gave us launching out of the water .After that it was a race to get them out before he hit.He was soon like a trained dolphin coming out of the water trying to rob them .

We tried up past island next but nada so headed out to a not too distant bank and anchored for a few hours .First blood to Bolger with a 6 lb smoothie .Then I missed a bite and reeled up only to see a small tope chasing the mack head up .He turned and I let it go but he just looked and swam off . We got a few more bites and a few dogs and Bolger pulled a tope around same size as the smoothie,Perfest little torpedo .;

Came back in and tried a few drifts for mack .Not much till outside the harbour got a few dozen and in and home .

Always a privilege to get out for the day and any fish is better than no fish .

I had also been out Tuesday with my 2 girls of 6 and 9. They had some cod and pollack drifting around and we had 40 odd macks right out of harbour .Some pics of happy girls .The one of the codling is misty due to pollack crap all over my phone after taking that pic .

 a little method iv developed for seals works each time . tie a lenght of line to the rail of the boat [about 8 to 10 ft]
tie the other end to 1 of the macks tails. coax the seal over by tossing the mack in and pulling it out when the seal dives
he will come right up close after it .now also tie another lenth of line beside the rail with a pound weight on the end  as the seal comes for the mack give him the weight on the top of his head  .you want to see the back flips they do when you do this    they stay well clear of the boat

thats a great tip derek do you thing a 2lb bopedo weight would do the trick if i launch it hard enough, i would also tie this to a piece of heavy string abou2 20ft long

Can you still get those weights they used for the old sash windows ? Of course we wouldnt being responsible anglers .

By the way on my post above , all fish were released alive except the ones the bloody seal killed .

Love the humour on here.

Always the risk of a hugger using a misquoted piece of comedy for publicity though so I wont make obvious comment about swopping breaker man pound for pound for seal meat .

It is great to get out with the kids .Some have to be blackmailed to get them out but love it once out and other extreme is youngest crying as couldnt bring her last night for macks as due back too late.Has to be enjoyed now before they are old enough to laugh at you for the mere suggestion at them being with you let alone fishing as well.

thats not humour iim deadly serious  the amount of tackle that has been destroyed by these vermin is in the hundreds not only all the rigs. my young sons rod was pulled straight out of his hands by one stripping the hooks .i have had enough. the blackwidow i had rotted on the boat so had to try something. they havent come anywhere near the boat since i done this
