Bullock 24-7-10

Sun Jul 25, 2010 7:43 pm

People:Me, Simon, Paul, Mark, Sean.

Duration: 3-6

Tide: haven't a clue.

Weather: Cloudy,warm, then sunny.

Bait: Feathers some baited with Mackerel

Rigs: as above

Results: Mackerel Codling.

Report:

The five of us eventually got out on our first ever boat trip, we were suppose to hire a boat out of Bullock for the last three weeks yesterday it finally happened, it was well worth the wait. As none of us had a clue to fishing from a boat Monica gave us a few tips and out we went, we didn't venture out far as it was our first time, went out a bit of distance and just drifted for a while we all caught mackerel not that many and a lot of small ones. we moved down a bit further and caught a few more and a few Codling and the usual tangles one hand line wrapped around another. we only had about 20 mackerel and ten Codling still at least we didn't blank. We had a great time so relaxing great weather we even came back half an hour late fair play to Monica she didn't bill us for the extra half hour. Thanks to lads here who gave me a few tips on rods and bait, cant wait to go back again and venture out a bit further and maybe catch a few more species.

Nice going there. I'd fish out of Bulloch a lot and I'd have to say that you don't need to venture out far at all to pick up species, in fact the closer in you are the better. I've found the dirty ground around the 40 foot and Scotsmans bay to be good for codling, wrasse and even gurnard. The muglins can be good for pollock and the stretch at the back of sorrento terrace can be productive, if a little shallow. Going further out to sea can be a waste of time.

Is it possible to get onto Dalkey Island?, say maybe go in the morning and get picked up later in the day, is there a boat service that would do that?

Hi lads,

Want to do this myself. Just wondering:

-Is there much snaggy/rough ground ie. would you want to bring a lot of spare leads an feathers?

- Does it matter much what tide you go out given you're in a boat(never fished from a boat before)?

Thanks

We were in the same boat as you  were we were fishing was not snaggy, none of us lost any gear as regards fishing the tide I don't know im sure if you fished at high tide it would improve your chances of getting more fish as i say i'm only guessing i'm sure the lads here will put you right.
