Report:Just a short trip yesterdayafternoon.one of my sons goldfish died lastweek after changing the water in the tank so instead of giving him the flush or putting it in a grave in the garden my son decided to "USE HIM AS BAIT" so into the freezer he went.all week he was asking when are we going fishing .with the weather being so poor it must have been 2 weeks since i was out last and i was looking foward to getting out myself.after a few drifts across the mouth of the harbour we had about 10 macks so we went into scotsmans bay to fish over the rough ground with bait.first thing out was the goldfish and onto the sons bottom hook ,it was more for a laugh  than anything else.first drop, bang a savage bite ,after a good scrap a nice cod came up about 5lb on the bottom hook :D :D i should of took a photo of the goldfish because its hard to believe but its true.i havent seen a cod like that since i was a kid . i caught one in greystones that was 6lb when i was about 12.we caught a wee ling and a few small cod aswell.I heard of someone catching a cod on a sausage before ,i wonder what else they would take :?:

Funny thing Al,
A few years ago on an SAI trip with Mark Gannon out of Courtmacsherry I done very well on Gold 4 & 5 inch shads. I think there was a chuckle when they went on, but I managed pollock to 11lbs and had a 12.5lb Coalie on the same lure....

Funny how things work out all the same.

saw the same thing last year on a co down boat trip. dawsey brought along 2 mates who were pretty clueless about sea fishing. one of them stuck on a bright flourescent pink shad that looked like nothing in the sea and cleaned up getting the biggest pollock of the day    go figure
