People:Damien & Bert

Duration: 5hrs

Tide: Dropping

Weather:Beautiful calm evening

Bait:Frozen Macks, Live & frozen Crab

Rigs: 3 down

Results: 2 Smoothound, 1 Tope, 1 Thornback Ray, 1 Bullhuss, 1 Tub Gurnard, loads of Doggies

Report:

Got a chance to take Bert McGregor's new Warrior 165 for a first spin. We left Howth at high water on a beautiful warm Wed afternoon. Bert had plenty of frozen Macks as well as frozen and live peeler Crab so we were not too worried about catching fresh Macks, we just wanted to take the new boat for a good spin.
We got her in the water (a doddle on that new trailer) and got her prepared for the off. The 60 HP 4 stroke Merc kicked off without a problem and boy was it quite compared to our own 60 HP 2 stroke 'Rude, I had to listen twice to make sure she was fired up.
We headed out of the harbour and opted to try for some Macks off Balscadden but as none showed up within the first 10 mins we decided not to wast any more time and so headed off to a mark of mine on the Bennet Bank. It was a bit of a pain having to keep the rev's at 3,000 RPM on the way out (to run it in we needed to do 1 hour at 3,000 and then the next few at 4,000 RPM max.) but we got there in the end.
After anchoring up we both baited up and let our rigs down over the side. It was not long before Bert's rod got a good bang and when he took it in there was a nice Smoothound smiling at him with his Green eyes. It was great for Bert to Christen his new boat with a good fish. His next bang was a little while later which resulted in a nice Tope (26 lbs) coming aboard to be tagged and released. His third fish was a nice Tornback Ray followed by a Doggie and his 5th drop brought in a triple of a Bullhuss, Smoothound & a Doggie on the one trace. 5 differen species in his first 5 drops - what a way to christen the boat - fair play to him.
We had numerous Doggies come aboard before I landed a nice 2lb Tub Gurnard which was returned alive. We finished off with more Doggies before we decided to call it a day and head home.

This turned out to be one of the best days fishing I've had out of Howth in a long time.

The only down side was getting mud on the lovely clean boat while coming into Howth on a very low tide.

Might be worth noting wearing waders on a boat is not a great idea, in my opinion... I know you can tell me where to go too... PS - impressed with the Fishing :-)

Great days fishing. Well done. Although I agree with Choco about the waders, it's like wearing a piano for a parachute.
