Weymouth trip 5/6/7/ june 2010-06-10 myself brian tony fella
Started off on Friday morning rosslare ferry for 8 am leaving at 9am arrived in fishguard for 12.15 5 hour trip to Weymouth went to b&b off loaded the boat and gear went to have a look around Weymouth plenty of charter boats flamer111 and tiger lilly tied up found waymouth angling centre right beside the habour got some grub and headed back to b&b to sort out the gear
Saturday morning up and out breakfast at 7 am we had the boat in the water for 8ish paid habour master for launch and trailer parking 45 pounds for 4 days not to bad . we tied up beside pontoon upthe ladder over to collect the bait in angling center I had it pre ordered 2 lb of rag 20 pounds and a box of party squid we set of lovely calm morning out to Portland habour we had macs in no time along with launce and sandeel few ballan wrasse out to the famous shambles bank we started to drift long strips of mac on 4/0 hooks tipped with squid well we picked up dog after dog after dog no turbot we did see on landed around the 5 lb mark cheered us up so we decided to head for a mark were the lads were getting some spurdogs we got there straight away we were in we landed 26 of them to 20 lb I had one on and 6 more casme up with him for a look great fun on light gear tony had 2 bite off 80lb mono straight tru I was using my new circle hooks with 250 lb mono no problems we moved again back to shambles just at low water again all we managed were dogs we had done 7 hours on the shambles we headed back to Portland habour were we had small Pollock and more wrasse finished up at 9.30 pm
Day 2 Sunday weather forcast was not great started off with fresh macs again with ease plenty of ballan wrasse and launce back out to shambles but 6 ft swells and white horses it was a waste of time we went for shelter on the ledges were we had a few black bream wrasse Pollock anchored up had cuckoo wrasse on rag lsds plenty of the went for a short drift were we landed 2 plaice under 2 lb as much as we tried we could not get out we packed up around 5 pm
Monday forcast was for 13 to 16 mph southerly winds we headed for fresh bait again plenty of macs back out to the shambles no other boats on it not looking good after 20 dogs tony got a decent bite resulted in a fine turbot of 5 lb in the next 2 hours we landed 3 more 2 to 4 lb then the rain came we got washed out of it the other boats were fishing north of us the all headed in we gave it our best shot we had 14 species in the 3 days we were to stay 4 but weather was forcasting bad for Tuesday so I re booked the ferry so we finished up on Monday around 5 quick change and we were in fishguard for 12.25 am plenty of time as ferry was leaving at 2.30 one of the evenings we were chatting to 2 charter skippers and told me april is the month for turbot and brill most of the charters were out 30 plus miles on the wrecks plenty of big Pollock and cod along with big bass we had planned to go wrecking but weather was the problem we still had a good craig and got some fishing in
