I arrived at the pier at 3 o clock and had an hour to kill before the lads arrived. I got the boat ready to go and decided to try and tempt one of the many mullet that were shoaling around the boats. My choice of methods was freelining bread because i had no floats. On with the polarized glasses and off i went in search of my first mullet. I had them feeding on the bread straight away and i was getting a bit of interest in the bread on the hook but the fish were just sniffing around it and mouthing it a little bit. 20 mins passed and it was the same story until a large mullet cruised out from under the marina and headin straight for my bait. I watched as he took the bread and struck as soon as i knew it was in his mouth. My little mitchell blade reel left off an unholy screech as the mullet bolted for the cover of one of the many boats i was trying to navigate around. After a crackin fight and a fairly nerve wrecking five mins he was in the net thanks to a helpful yaughtsman that was passing and lended a hand. Quick snap and off he went back under the cover of the marina. We set off in the boat and headed out by the mouth of the harbour. Tried for a few macks but didn't have any luck. We drifted up and down the harbour taking in the nice wether and landing a few fish as we went. We had a mix of doggies, dab, codling, whiting and coalies. The doggie was a fairly lively fella that gave me a bit of entertainment by chasing my uncle around the boats wet floor. If he got a fright from the doggie i'd love to see how he'd react to a pi**ed off conger on the deck. Beautiful day to be out, another new species and we all caught fish. The mullet was caught on my new spinning rod that i bought for 15 quid, it's well payed for itself already.
