Report: Beautiful flat calm day . Easy launch from Inniscrone slip . Initial plan was to target conger but v few mackerel on the way out so skipper opted for a few moves - drifts over reefs and anchor over sand for an hour or so . Fairly quiet during slack water but then really picked up . A few mackerel and plenty of nice pollack to start with ( well , Steve caught and released plenty . I caught one which I am afraid I took home . Very nice it was . ) More of same plus coalie and small wrasse over various reefs . Then anchored up where one of us managed to take a good sized dab for every worm , until he ran out , plus a very nice plaice and beautiful turbot . Just kept on getting better !
Interesting to note what a difference the type of rig and bait made . Hokai outfished white feathers - maybe slighter fewer mackerel but generally bigger . Hokai tipped with mackerel took pollack , which the feathers didn't . Long trace and very slow retrieve with large jelly worm much better than shorter & smaller . The various flatties - all ( must have been 30 or so ) except one fell to worm . No interest in sandeel . Not sure what the turbot took . Yer man didn't tell me and I thought better not to ask for yet another secret . Forgot to say that technique might have had something to do with it too .
Don't want to sound sloppy about this but thanks to Steve for a great day out , and to this forum for the intro - we hadn't met before .

Having said that this might upset Steve a tiny bit - after he'd gone I dropped the last manky frozen mackerel down the side of the pier while I was tidying up . Pretty soon had a 22 Lb conger on the bank .
Nice one .
