Launched from Kilrush yesterday and made the short run out to Loop head. Fishing is still surprisingly slow. Mackerel are plentifull enough in pockets. We had pollack to 5 pounds(small for here), codling, whiting bull huss and lsd's. Not a lot of fish, but slow and steady.
We were lucky to come across a pod of botttlenosed dolphins, proper fishermen.
Strange thing about the mackerel. I was catching trebleshots off the bottom on baited feathers. Two whiting and a mackerel , on the bottom in 180 feet of water. This happened on several occasions to me and my boat partner, so was not just a fluke. What are macks doing on the bottom at that depth?
And the bloody weather, it was gorgeous, lovely day out.

The bay just before loop head, is the spot of specimen huss, double shots galore this time last year!!
