Hi,
Well, it was a great day out, and after being frustrated over the last couple of months by always being at work when the weather was calm, a lot of pent up frustration was evident.
We started the day in the harbour, and picked up plenty of herring and launce and codling in the channel, when we had our fill we moved off to do a bit of bass fishing, but no luck this time,.
Around midday as the harbour was beginning to fill with craft of all shapes and sizes ( all tanking around at full speed, and going nowhere!!) we headed off out to the lings, made a little bit more interesting as the GPS had decided to pack up.
A guess was made that we were in the rough area north of the lings,and we commenced a long drift, which yielded some nice fish, including some nice ling and red gurnards.
It went quiet for a while so made a move back east and commenced another drop, first fish in was a nice sized haddock which was witnessed by donal d as he happened to arrive at the right time!! Mark fixed in his new GPS!
Decided to move into the harbour for the coming tide and have a go for the blondes and flats. No blondes today, but plenty of nice dabs and a nice flounder, but still no plaice.
For the last hour we moved into the inner harbour to have a minis hit, and had a great session on the small stuff, nice to see so many around so early this year.

well here we go again season bearly started and martyn and willy have a half a boat load of species lol
i was really envious of all the the lads with boats out this last week.while the sun beamed down i was scraping and antifouling should be ready next week for launching. must have been brilliant with the conditions yesterday and a steady flow of fish by the looks of it.nice one martyn

You would expect them to be well gone by this date but the water has been very cold up to now.

Was thinking the same Jim, but it doesn't seem to be overly effexcting the fishing. HAving said that, the Plaice and Bass seem to be keeping a low profile.

Great Report Martyn. Some very good fishing there. Is it normal for the Herring to still be around?

This was a shoal of them in side W1 taken on the24th. of March.

I was fishing in about of 54 feet of water but they were so thick the sounder could not go through them the red line on the bottom is the sea bed and the sounder was measuring at the 60ft debt.

I took over 30 herring and 7 mackerel out of it. Nearly all the herring were fouled hooked.

lots of herring between forts, though they are getting smaller with the odd mack in them. we got the macks offshore near lings at depth around 140 feet, just leaving a set of shrimp rigs at depth in rod holder.
Everything this year is rather unusual, we even saw a great northern diver (loon) !!! never seen one on this side of the world before
