well, intended to go to the harbour only, due to normal weather forecast from met Eireann saying 37 kmh s/e, but trusted the seaweed saying calm til 1500, and thats exactly what happened, so headed out to the lings.
The sea still had a good swell running, but it was long, so nice to ride over, and nice and comfortable to fish, well fish, bit of a contradiction of terms as it seemed the sea was barren, tried everything, and with very little results, other than my banker pollock mark it would have been a terrible day.
Only highlight was we saw a feeding frenzy going on nearby, so off we headed and right under the activity was a large bait ball on the surface, switched to mini sabikis, and up comes a nice string of sprat!, it was carnage in the area, with scales everywhere, but there was nothing underneath the ball, and as soon as we arrived it put of the feeding gulls, and auks that had corral'd the sprat into a ball, i bet they were a happy bunch of fish as they made a break for freedom!
headed back into the harbour, tried all the normal haunts, and only one pin whiting, it was just one of those days, so headed home early.
Could only guess as to the lack of interest from the fish, but on many occassions, my sounder was thick with baitfish at depth, most likely sprat, so prehaps they were just full up!!!!
Great to get out though and to add another species at this time of year a nice bonus
