Bulloch boats Friday 25th & Fish ID please

Thu Oct 01, 2009 11:00 am

People: Me & Stephen8wood

Duration: 1.30pm – 5pm

Tide: falling

Weather: calm and mostly sunny. Beautiful day not to be in the office!

Bait: rag, mack

Rigs: 3 hook flapper, flowing trace, 3/0 pulley, feathers

Results: Cod, Mackerel, Pollock, Whiting, Pouting, Bull Huss or Lesser Spotted Dogfish ???.

Report:

Decided to take Friday afternoon off and give the Bulloch boats one last go before they close for the season and the day didn’t disappoint. It was a bit of a slow start but we had steady fish all afternoon. Not many macks about, we caught about 5. The photo of the dogfish is not great as I didn’t get all that much of him in it. It looks a lot smaller than it was. It was certainly much bigger than the LSDs I’m used to catching and he had those browny spots all over him. Can anyone tell from the photo if it’s a bull huss or an LSD?

It was a Bull Huss, Greatser spotted dog as far as I'm concerned. He had the funny nose.

If he had smiled at the camera it would be easier to determine.

sorry mate it is without doubt a dogfish, the nasal flaps on a huss are totally different, the head isnt larg enough either
