43rd Cobh International Deep Sea Angling Festival Day 1

Mon Aug 31, 2009 11:48 pm

People:56 Anglers

Duration:All day (Monday 31st Aug)

Tide:HT 15:39pm (3.3m)

Weather:Atrocious - full blown gale in the morning

Bait:Mackeral

Rigs:Various

Results:Mixed

Report:The Festival kicked off this morning into the teeth of a gale. 56 brave souls ventured forth on 9 fully equipped charter boats. Because of the weather conditions fishing was restricted to the harbour. Despite this many of the anglers had good fishing. The best catches were from those boats that anchored up on the Harbour Rock. A total of 78 congers were landed as well as various other species. The leader after Day 1 was local veteran Frank Cronin. As well as having the best bag of the day Frank also had the best fish of the day, a 15kg conger. Juvenile angler, William Morey, also did well with a large eel of 13kg. Best lady was Sandra O' Shea whose impressive catch puts her into third overall. Everyone has their fingers crossed for the weather tomorrow and hopefully we'll get out to the outer reefs. That will give everyone a chance of catching Frank whose points total stands at over 400 pts or over 35kg of fish. (When I get a chance I'll post up a few pics.)
