Bait: mackerel

Rigs: shads, pirks and flapper rigs

Results: a pouting, 2 pollack and about a dozen ling in double figures

Report: Peter boycied himself with the hook well in above the barb, there was some
debate about what to do next, Chief Medical Operative Domeney walks over, rips is out
and tells everyone to stop mucking about and finish catching the bait

The first wreck we visited produced 2 pollack, a pouting and some nice ling
the best on was 23lbs

bit of a delay with a burst hydraulic line hauling the anchor, when we got to
the second wreck there was plenty of fish on the sounder but the tide was too
strong to fish it then it was time to head for home

had the same on my boat couple of weeks ago gobshite trying to cast a hand line with a pound weight a nice 6/0 imbeded
in his finger only way to do it a sharp pull with a vice grips i think i missed my calling should have been a brain surgeon nice one on the ling beauties.

a bit unfair there,was my first trip out and did my best to be prepared but didnt know what the best feather was for the mack,and the 1 time i got to throw a line in i got a full house as pat will testify,but as i was bringing it aboard the line snapped and i got hooked but it it was 2 mins b4 all was sorted thanks to donal

and can i add my thanks to all for the learning curve and all the help i got before and during the trip,esp tony fella and paddyc b4 the trip and to be honest every1 that was on the boat for their help,thanks guys

peter my apologies if u were offended by my post, was only trying to add a bit of
colour to the tale of our adventure. I was disappointed we did not get better fishing,
seems to be some days good some days bad on those marks and nobody can predict it.
id go again myself as i'd love to get one of the big cod or coalies

sounds painfull petet97,have done it myself once bet you never do it again dont mind the boys there only having a bit of a laugh.your in good company even boycie does it every so often!!

I'd certainly be interested in fishing that second wreck again. Smaller tides, between 3.4m and 3.6m would be best.

After an enjoyable overnight stay at the Leap Inn, where Ann kindly spoiled us all with an early served breakfast and freshly brewed coffee, we met up at Reen Pier with skipper Colin Barnes and the lads who travelled in from the Cork area.

The well seasoned seafarers shared their proven tactics with the lesser experienced anglers and after catching full strings of Mackerel for bait, we all were set up for the monsters.

We were full of anticipation to catch some nice specimen cod, ling and other species living in the wrecks, which dating back to WW1, so the long trip of about 30nmls offshore flew past, spiced up with storytelling and a bit of banter.

Id go back down even for the weekend if the weather is right the fish are there..High light of the trip was jws ling eating a couple of pirks and mack to try get him over 25lbs

I want to say thanks to you all for a most pleasant day out fishing, not to mention all the hands on advice received, really enjoyed the excellent craic on board and later on in the pub.

Tommy stayed on for a sharking trip out from Union Hall the next day, forecast was looking good, don't know how they got on.

thanks lads i had a great day out nice to meet you all and put face's to name's i learned alot of different metods of fishing and id love to try that second wreck again so we will have to try and go again cheers gar

Just to agree with what the others have said,enjoyed the day ,have to go again.
Thanks to JW for all the effort he made and to those people that were there on the day.
