People: me and petekd
Duration: few hours in evening
Tide: around high water
Weather: nice
Bait: mackerel
Rigs: hokkais, sabikkis, flowing traces, animal rigs
Results: macks, lesser weever, pollack, bull huss, dab, whiting, dogs, grey gurnard, conger
Report: Late report, been away. Quick trip out to see if my boat maintenance had paid off. Everything went smoothly apart from some issues with the fuel line, which we rectified by swapping the hose around - must be tiny difference in the new connector I put on and the fact that the kill switch doesn't seem to be functioning - ever wondered how long it takes an engine to run down with no fuel line connected - bloody ages is how long
Had to use our highly tuned mackerel senses to search out a few macks for bait (and a few for a barbecue order) and eventually we were rewarded out way beyond Roche's Point.
Drifted around out there seeing what we could find, Pete picking up a couple of grey gurnard and me dropping a few fish as I couldn't be bothered changing from a set of old 4/0 hokkais.
Drifted the rock picking up some pollack on the bottom and Pete gilling for them.
Drifted the bank for the usual assortment of whiting, a dab to me and a weever for Pete. Very slow drift, so then headed to our huss mark where we camped up for a couple of hours, landing a good few dogs and one huss and a doggy conger double to me, whilst spinning for pollack. Not too bad for a quick trip out. Hopefully get out a few evenings this week.........
