Apollo, Cork, 29/06/09

Ill save you the bother Dommo and throw up a quickie. Got a call from himself yesterday afternoon, dropped everything, press ganged the sister into baby sitting and hammered off to meet Mr. Domeney for an afternoon afloat aboard his Warrior 165 Apollo.

Some snotty wind against tide and a tooth rattling trip out didnt deter us and we set to fishing a patch of mixed ground.

Pout, Poor Cod, 1 or 2 (hundred) Whiting, Haddock, Red, Grey, Tub Gurnard, Cod, Megrim, Pollack, Mackerel, Coalfish, Ling, LSDs (14 in total.)

Bragging rights on the day went to Dommo with a specimen Red Gurnard and a Megrim, I thought he had pipped me on the species battle too but I make it 10 apiece?! Fresh mackies were the best bait and flowing trace for me and a spreader bar for Donal did the damage. Driven somewhat mad by my inability, yet again, to catch a Megrim...

Lovely day afloat on a fine well kept boat despite a snotty trip out and plenty of action through the day on handy ground to keep interest levels high. Many thanks for the spin out Donal, appreciated. No pics I'm afraid as too busy catching fish....

Sorry Pete missed this one the first time around might be down to the fact that I was getting a few bone put back in place.
Forecast for Roches Point on the RTE 1 radio forecast at 12.55 was “Roches Point 6 knots” happy days. The real forecast was probably 26 knots

Would some from Met Eireann go down there with a can of WD40 and oil the instruments.

Back to reality it was a cracking day out.
For me it was launch No. 25 this year, and it was planned, for Pete it was a spur of the moment boat trip which made it all more exiting no sleepless night wondering if you got the right traces, bait and all the other problems that ensue.
What did pose a bit of a problem was he did have his boat gear in the jeep. I was hoping to fob him off with some trash gear.

Tried my best to get him a megrim but your either good or you brilliant.
My 3rd. specimen red gurnard this year and my first to claim, keep the fish and sent away the photo.I do eat fish.
Stayed on the drift all evening and too honest it was not a bad tally.

LOL, you might as well have done for all I had in my rig box, stuck with the one trace all afternoon and I can now confirm, its no good for Megrim.... Bones put back into place? What on earth happened to you? Didnt affect your driving as I spotted you sailing through the kinsale road roundabout yesterday, body roll on Jeeps is a curse isnt it...

25 Launches..... very well done on that one alone. Serious effort there. Just wish I had the Harbour on the door step myself... Even with that, I doubt I would be any way near 25.... Keep it going.....
